Managing Files and Backups

Managing Files and Backups

Overview

Every RPV Websites hosting package includes secure file management and automated backups to keep your data protected. Depending on your hosting plan, you may have direct access to cPanel file tools or managed backup support through our team.

Accessing Your Files

If your hosting plan includes full cPanel access (Business or Enterprise), you can manage your files directly:

  1. Log in to your Client Area.
  2. Navigate to Services → My Services and select your hosting package.
  3. Click Login to cPanel.
  4. Open File Manager to view, upload, or edit your website files.

We recommend uploading web files to the public_html directory — this is the root folder for your live website.

For Basic Plan Users

If you’re on the Basic Plan, your site files are managed automatically by the Sitejet Builder. You don’t need to manually upload or edit any files. However, our team can assist with file changes or email setup on request — simply contact us at hello@rpvwebsites.co.uk.

Automated Backups

All RPV Websites hosting accounts benefit from automated backups stored in two locations — on our primary hosting servers and off-site on Wasabi Cloud Storage for redundancy. These backups ensure your data is protected even in the unlikely event of hardware failure or data loss.

  • Daily server-level backups retained on your hosting server.
  • Weekly off-site backups stored securely with Wasabi Cloud Storage.
  • All backups are encrypted and retained for a minimum of four weeks.
  • Backups include your website files, databases, and email data (for full-access plans).

Requesting a Restore

If you need to roll back to a previous version of your site, please open a support ticket with the subject line “Backup Restore Request.”

  1. Log in to your Client Area.
  2. Go to Support → Open Ticket.
  3. Include your domain name, desired restore date, and a short description of what you’d like restored.

Our team will confirm your request and handle the restore process for you. Typical restore time is 24–48 hours depending on file size and availability.

Best Practices for File Safety

  • Download a local copy of your website after major updates.
  • Never edit system files (e.g., .htaccess) unless you know what they do.
  • Keep your website plugins and CMS (e.g., WordPress) updated if applicable.
  • Contact support before uploading large backups or database dumps to ensure adequate space.
